Am I being too harsh?
No. I am not.
There are some people who are defending Sam Pepper, and I’ve been told by a select few that I’m being too harsh in my video. That’s silly. Allow me to elaborate.
1. He sexually assaulted people… that should be enough reason, but I’ll continue anyways.
2. Not only did he sexually assault women, but he documented it, called it a prank (therefore making it out to be a perfectly acceptable behavior), broadcast it to his 2.5 million subscribers, and monetized off of it.
3. He ignored the backlash, and left the video up because of the revenue it was generating.
4. And he still hasn’t addressed it, or made an official apology. He continues to tweet as though nothing has happened.
"What if he made a video about you?" Good question, but I didn’t sexually assault people so… that’s not a very valid defense. But if I do, PLEASE make as many videos as you can. HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE ACTIONS. DO NOT BLINDLY DEFEND ME.
"You should stay out of other people’s business." This isn’t a matter of getting in someone else’s business, it’s about standing up for equality, and calling someone out for their terrible actions.
"If it was the other way around, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal." Well of course it wouldn’t, us men are fortunate to be members of a VERY privileged group of people. I hate the fact that there even is a privileged portion of the population, and that I’m a part of it, but I also recognize that it is much worse for those who aren’t so privileged. It is our responsibility to break down that privileged hierarchy and level the playing field.
Your arguments are invalid.
He is actively perpetuating the idea that sexual assault is a laughing matter. If people continue to allow these actions to take place, we’ll never progress as a society. If we don’t do something NOW, women will continue to live in fear. Women will continue to feel like they HAVE to live in a world where they are objects for men’s satisfaction.
By not standing up against what he has done, we are allowing our society to continue this terrible trend.
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world."
